Fraud And Aftermath Essay Example For Students

Extortion And Aftermath Essay annonIn his sonnet The Divine Comedy. The Inferno, Dante Alighieri gives hisaudience an away from introduction of what he as a devotee of theChristian religion sees to be hellfire. Dante shows that human sin ispunishable in different degrees of seriousness and this is needy onthe nature of one^?s corrupt activities. He presents what could very well bethe most completely created Christian comprehension of equity on earth, andthat is; that what we do as people will figure out what happens to usin the occasion of death dependent on God^?s judgment. Recorded as a hard copy his sonnet Danteuses imagery, allegorism and symbolism among other abstract impacts toplace his sonnet analogically to life as it was during his day and age. Dante structures The Inferno around thirty four cantos. Each of thesecantos marks a consistent movement from the mildest to the most noticeably terrible of sins. The cantos delineate heathens under different types of discipline which arecommensurate to the idea of their wrongdoings. Dante sorts sin into three distinct classes of fraud, incontinence and brutality. In canto I he makes reference to three creatures specifically , aleopard, a lion and a she-wolf. These creatures go about as imageries for thevarious kinds of sins. The sin^?s delineated in canto XVIII are symbolizedby the she-wolf which goes about as an image for the transgressions of extortion. The wrongdoings offraud are put the furthest from God in the most profound pits of heck, nearSatan. In canto XVIII Dante and his guide Virgil wind up in theeighth circle, called the Malebolge. It is in the Malebolge, that each ofthe sorts of straightforward misrepresentation are rebuffed in the concentric trench. In the primary jettison, Dante sees two records of bare miscreants each running inopposite bearing, whipped by evil presences. These heathens are the panderers andthe enticers. Dante perceives Venedico Caccianemico, a man he once knew. Venedico for this situation is portrayed as having sold his sister, Ghisola toserve the will and desire of another man, Marquis. Dante now usesa individual contemporary to show what happens when one conflicts with the willof God and sins. Venedico sells out his family ties and his lack of interest inthis act brings about his endless discipline of being whipped by evil presences. Additionally referenced as having been rebuffed is Jason, who endures punishmentfor having enticed and deserted Hypsipyle and Medea. For these twosinners Dante^?s purposeful anecdote spins around the law of retributive justicewhere both Venedico^?s and Jason^?s psychology^?s at the time ofcommitting sin are connected to the discipline of whip lashing by evil presences. The two heathens place their own needs and interests above others and arenow put under the whip lashing and severe order of indifferentdemons. Dante and Virgil move over to a scaffold and underneath it, Dante sees the ditchof the toadies. It is in this channel people who had trespassed asflatterers are rebuffed by being made to flounder in a waterway of humanexcrement from which radiates sickening vapor. Dante perceives AlessioInterminelli da Lucca. Allesio is spread done with fertilizer. Virgilalerts Dante of the nearness of one more heathen, Tha?s. Tha?s ispunished similarly as Alessio, yet is made to on the other hand rise andcrouch in the waterway of waste. Tha?s is rebuffed for being a prostituteand for a complimenting lie that she told while in the exchange. The punishmentthat this two thusly endure is the unceasing odor and foulness of theditch. Tha?s in this canto sustains the picture of ingenuine love whichturns out to be a simple outlet for real inclinations and requirements. From theperspective of Tha?s^? what's more, Allesio^?s discipline we see that they bothundergo the procedure of retributive equity. Brown no sers, due to their abuseof language flounder in fecal matter which figuratively represents the wordsthey utilized in complimenting others on earth. .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86 , .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86 .postImageUrl , .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86 .focused content territory { min-tallness: 80px; position: relative; } .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86 , .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86:hover , .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86:visited , .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86:active { border:0!important; } .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86 { show: square; change: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-progress: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; murkiness: 1; change: mistiness 250ms; webkit-progress: haziness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86:active , .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86:hover { darkness: 1; progress: obscurity 250ms; webkit-progress: obscurity 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86 .focused content region { width: 100%; position: r elative; } .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86 .ctaText { outskirt base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: striking; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; text-embellishment: underline; } .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; fringe: none; outskirt range: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; textual style weight: intense; line-stature: 26px; moz-outskirt sweep: 3px; text-adjust: focus; text-design: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-tallness: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/basic arrow.png)no-rehash; position: supreme; right: 0; top: 0; } .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .u151392d7c3bfa9f7 b76eb8261528ba86 .focused content { show: table; tallness: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .u151392d7c3bfa9f7b76eb8261528ba86:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Drinking water pollution EssayIn end it tends to be seen that Dante sees misrepresentation as a wrongdoing thatseparates individuals from God^?s elegance and love. She dips in and spares everybody from themselves. Be that as it may, she is just ready to do this by taking on the appearance of a man. As Portia’s venture illustrates, Shakespeare perceives the mind and capacities that ladies have yet yields that they must be exhibited when on a level playing field with men. A large number of Shakespeare’s ladies show their mind and tricky when they are veiled as men. Rosalind as Ganymede in As You Like It is another model. Considering a gap year before college

Should you consider a â€Å"gap year† before college? Back in the 80s, parents’ worst nightmare was that their flaky Gen-X teens would defer entry into college, stating that they first needed to â€Å"find themselves.† After a year of goat herding in the Himalayas, being one with nature, and going on nightly vision quests, the best some parents could hope for is that their sons and daughters would eventually return, ready to hit the books, embrace Alex P. Keatonesque values, and eventually end up as Wall Street wolves. While absurd, this introduction offers a kernel of truth In the absence of proper nomenclature, a desire to step off the conveyor belt of formal education was not always encouraged in American culture. Rest assured, in modern times, the â€Å"gap year† is officially a real thing, and while only 2% of soon-to-be college students presently partake, the practice is greatly increasing in popularity.   No longer solely the domain of the wealthy, a growing number of middle class students are also taking a year off to foray into the â€Å"real† world, often emerging with a new sense of perspective, purpose, and direction. What is a Gap Year?Taken either right after high school or at some point between years of college (often junior and senior), a gap year is a structured break from formal academics that affords young people a chance to travel, volunteer, intern, study abroad, or further explore a personal area of interest. Common gap year activities include volunteering with an organization like Americorps, teaching English in a foreign country, or learning about global issues firsthand with a group like Thinking Beyond Borders, just to name a few. What are the potential benefits?Gap year participants self-report that the top two reasons they indulged were to 1) learn more about themselves and 2) avoid burnout following a grueling and competitive high school experience.A gap year can provide an unparalleled opportunity for major/career exploration. Many students report an increa sed sense of purpose upon starting or returning to college following a year away. For example, your architecture major may take on new meaning after spending a year building homes with Habitat for Humanity. A soon-to-be pre-med major may be energized into a new career passion after seeing lacking hospital conditions overseas. A future social worker might discover a newfound fervor for working with disadvantaged adolescents. The possibilities for meaningful vocational discovery are endless.Research on gap years While research is trying to catch up to this growing trend, there are a sufficient number of studies that can enlighten us on the effect of gap years. To assuage parental fears that this â€Å"gap† will turn into the Great Rift Valley, one recent study found that over 90% of participating students return to college within 12 months. When these young folks do return, they arrive more academically motivated than their peers. Research has shown that gap year participants ea rn higher grades than those who matriculate immediately after high school. In fact, two separate studies, one at UNC and one at Middlebury College, both revealed a statistically significant GPA advantage in favor of ex-gappers.A gap year can also have lasting positive effects beyond college. The first longitudinal study of individuals who took a gap year revealed that they ended up, on average, more satisfied in their early careers than those who did not.Entering the mainstreamTaking a year off prior to college for self exploration has long been a common practice in other parts of the world. In Scandinavian countries, over 50% of students elect to do this. As more and more American students indulge in this practice, many elite colleges and universities have taken steps to accommodate.Tufts has taken gap year encouragement a step further by creating a formalized 5 year degree program that starts off with a structured year of service prior to freshman year. Princeton has launched a si milar Bridge Year Program. Many other elite schools, Yale for example, do not offer an official program but openly encourage students to defer admission in pursuit of life experience. Why not to take a gap yearIt is typically a misguided approach to take a gap year solely for the purpose of trying to get into a better college. Academic performance is still your passport to an elite school. In fact, if this is your aim, consider completing your freshman year at a school that will accept you, racking up a killer transcript, and applying as a transfer at Elite U. the following year.A gap year doesn’t have to be fancyYou may also choose something less exotic and more affordable. Many gap year programs are international, but domestic opportunities, while sounding less glamorous, can be every bit as valuable. Colleges aren’t interested in the fact that the Brazilian orphanage where you volunteered had a majestic view of the Amazon River basin. It’s about the work, the dedication, the experience, and the opportunity to grow as a human being. Volunteering at a group home in the Bronx will be every bit as enlightening and meaningful even if scenic Amazonian waterfalls are replaced by bridges and billboards. If you prefer to explore more structured opportunities, use the resources below to begin your search for a program that will offer a good fit.Resources: For the American Gap Association’s complete list of â€Å"Gap friendly† schools click here. The following organizations are reputable, experienced, and regularly attend Gap Year fairs around the country.Click here for a list of scholarships and financial aid opportunities to fund your structured Gap Year experience.

The Hero’s Death in the Epic of Beowulf Essay - 1203 Words

The Hero’s Death in Beowulf Some literary scholars maintain that Beowulf developed character flaws through the course of the long narrative poem, and that at the time of his death he was a victim of pride, avarice, selfishness and an inordinate craving for glory. The purpose of this essay is to show that he was a tremendous hero from beginning to end. Towards the end of the poem, when the fire-dragon ravaged the Geatish land and burned down King Beowulf’s mead-hall: To the good king it was great anguish, pain deep in mind. The wise man believed he . . . had broken the old law; his breast welled†¦show more content†¦And he is fully willing to sacrifice his very life for this: â€Å"†¦ I alone will fulfill the wish of your people †¦ or die in the foe’s grasp.† Beowulf consciously chooses to act in a superhuman manner: â€Å"I shall perform the deeds of a hero or I have passed my last day in this mead hall.† Even Grendel recognizes the hero’s superior strength: â€Å"The criminal knew he had not met in this middle-earth another with such a grip.† Other warriors when thinking of Beowulf â€Å"would quickly compose a skillful tale in words.† Hrothgar refers to Beowulf as â€Å"the best of warriors.† The Danish queen Wealhtheow compliments after Grendel’s defeat, â€Å"You have earned forever the praise of men from near and far.† Hrothgar expounds on good warriors: â€Å"This is the best-born man – my friend Beowulf †¦ the best of warriors.† When the dragon burns the mead hall of the Geats and Beowulf prepares to retaliate, he â€Å"scorned a host, a large army †¦ he didn’t fear the dragon’s war †¦Ã¢â‚¬ Beowulf is also superior in a moral sense: Whe n Hygelac’s wife Hygd previously offered Beowulf the kingdom, he declined to accept because there was a legitimate heir to the throne. Beowulf’s example of extreme heroism motivates others to extraordinary deeds: Wiglaf, seeing Beowulf’s strength compromised by the dragon’s fire, risks his life to aid Beowulf in his final battle. We all know the issues when it comes to these two topics especially here in America. The biggest part about racial is the class inequalities and the injustice that is going on today. Not only with black people also immigrants, until we don’t apply what Martin Luther King said in his speech at the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963 he said, â€Å"When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, ‘Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!† Another quote that really I could say that apply more to the poor p eople with no type of power is this one also from Martin Luther King he says, â€Å"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.† Furthermore, lets mention a little about obesity how many children’s are obese, because of all the unhealthy food that they eat. No Escape Essay Example For Students

No Escape Essay I stood shaking outside the room, slowly I shuffled through the door and felt thirty pairs of eyes fix on me. Too nervous to glance round my new registration class, I concentrated on staring at the blue carpet below me embedded with chewing gum. Raising my head slightly I saw the teacher at the front of the class pointing towards an empty seat in the front row, as an indication for me to sit down. Not wanting to disturb anyone I sat in silence lost for words. A few girls in my classes showed me around for a while but I soon found a group of people who I settled with really well. I could be myself more openly and the whole group were excited to have a new member. Two of the girls in this gang became my best friends but at first I didnt quite realise just how much they would affect my life. English, Period Two on a Friday. That was our period in the library. I sat as usual with my two new best friends, Rozi and Elaine. We sat and talked for most of the class, swapping secrets and stories, by the end of the class I felt as though our friendship really would last. Rozi and Elaine had previously been best friends but upon my arrival, we instantly became a trio. At first I was closer to Rozi because she was louder and more risky than Elaine. She was always hyper whereas Elaine seemed more relaxed and was much more quieter. Elaine had an unbelievably good skill for listening but Rozi was more like memuch better at talking! The three of us became inseparable, close like sisters, joined at the hip as my mum called us. We arranged to meet on weeknights and weekends constantly. Our phone bills rocketed and I nearly drove my parents insane. We spent more time with each other than we did doing anything else. We rarely met up with other friends, we were happy, just the three of us. So where was the need for others? As time went on my happiness with this friendship seemed to good to continue just as easy, unfortunately I was right. Weeks later, gossip was flying. Apparently Rozi and I were datingeach other! That was such a shock to more people than we thought. I vividly recall us sitting giggling together in our R.E class, and all we could hear from the populars behind us was lezzy, lezzy! The rumours about us were everywhere. Our school, other schools, life was a nightmare. We stayed strong friends but the abuse was unthinkable. The three of us despaired at the thought of school every day. Each night I sat alone in the darkness of my room, huddled in a corner, wishing my life would end. I could see no other option. There was no escape. In 6 small months my life had become a living hell. There was only a few weeks left until half  term when I took drastic action to end it all Opening my eyes, I realised I was in hospital. Numerous tubes through my arms and having a drip attached to me, told me things werent over. A nurse was soon by my side, assuring me I was going to be okay. My attempt hadnt quite been strong enough to kill me but certainly knocked me out for a few days. Returning to school a week later, I dreaded the response. What I didnt expect was the majority of my year rushing up to me, flooding me with apologies. Needle in the Hay Song Analysis Essay Example

Needle in the Hay Song Analysis Paper â€Å"Needle in the Hay† by Elliott Smith Your hand on his arm The haystack charm Around your neck Strung out and thin Calling some friend Trying to cash some check Hes acting dumb Thats what youve come To expect (Chorus) Needle in the hay Needle in the hay Needle in the hay Needle in the hay Hes wearing your clothes Head down to toes A reaction to you You say you know what he did But you idiot kid You dont have a clue Sometimes they just Get caught in the eye Youre pulling him through *Chorus* Now on the bus Nearly touching This dirty retreat Falling out 6th and Powell A dead sweat in my teeth Going to walk, walk, walk Four more blocks Plus the one in my brain Down downstairs To the man Hes going to make it all ok I cant beat myself I cant beat myself And I dont want to talk Im taking the cure So I can be quiet Whenever I want So leave me alone You ought to be proud That Im getting good marks *Chorus 2x* In health class, we just finished a unit on drugs and addictions. We learned about the different classifications of drugs, their effects, and symptoms of addiction. Our current assignment is to analyze a song that describes the negative effects of drugs, and share our personal reaction to it. We will write a custom essay sample on Needle in the Hay Song Analysis specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Needle in the Hay Song Analysis specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Needle in the Hay Song Analysis specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer The song I chose is â€Å"Needle in the Hay† by Elliott Smith. This song can be interpreted in many different ways, but it’s almost always recognized as being about drugs, specifically heroin. Though Smith only became addicted to heroin in his later life, he writes about drugs, alcohol, and addiction in many of his songs, from his first album on. â€Å"Needle in the Hay† seems to be about a girl who is addicted to heroin, and is in a relationship with a guy who is beginning to use heroin himself. I chose this song because it’s beautifully written, and uses many interesting metaphors to help tell the story. The first line in the song is â€Å"Your hand on his arm, the haystack charm around your neck. † I think this is saying that she is beginning to become a bigger part of his life, but she is bringing her addiction into it also. â€Å"Strung out and thin, calling some friend, trying to cash some check. † The girl is thin from heroin use, as the drug causes loss of appetite, which leads to weight loss. She is stressed from not having the drug, so she calls a friend, hoping she can buy more. â€Å"He’s acting dumb, that’s what you’ve come to expect. † Her boyfriend knows what is going on with her, but he plays dumb and doesn’t acknowledge it. She knows that he knows, but doesn’t say anything. The song then goes to the chorus, which just repeats â€Å"Needle in the hay†, referring to the hidden, unspoken addiction(s) in the relationship. The next verse begins with â€Å"He’s wearing your clothes, head down to toes, a reaction to you. † I don’t think that he is literally wearing her clothes; I think it is a metaphor meaning that ever since he’s been with her, he’s becoming just like her, especially after acquiring the addiction. â€Å"You say you know what he did, but you idiot kid, you don’t have a clue. The girl thinks that she knows the guy so well, but she does not realize the severity of the situation, or the fact that she has brought this on him. â€Å"Sometimes they just get caught in the eye, you’re pulling him through. † Sometimes people just get caught up in bad things, and she’s only worsening his problem. In the third verse, the point of view seems to shift from third person into the girl’s eyes. â€Å"Now on the bus, nearly touching this dirty retreat. † The girl is going to get drugs, and she’s almost there. She knows what she’s doing is wrong, but by now it almost feels like a comfort, or an old friend. Falling out, 6th and Powell, a dead sweat in my teeth. † She’s now walking to the place where she’s going to get her drugs. The â€Å"dead sweat in my teeth† part is a bit hard to understand but I have a few ideas. It may just be symbolizing her craving, her need for the drug. It may be referring to the actual condition of her teeth, as heroin can cause teeth rotting and gum disease. Or, it could be a combination of both. â€Å"Going to walk walk walk, four more blocks, plus the one in my brain. Down, downstairs, to the man, he’s going to make it all okay. † Her addiction is so serious that she is willing to walk blocks and blocks to get to th e drug. She feels that once she gets it from the dealer, she will feel better and everything will be okay. She is dependant on the drug. â€Å"I can’t beat myself, I can’t beat myself, and I don’t want to talk. I’m taking the cure, so I can be quiet whenever I want. † She has gotten to the point where she no longer has faith in herself, and she needs the drug to feel okay. She’s so focused on the drug and feeling better that she’s becoming withdrawn and shutting the rest of the world out. She’s using heroin to ease her pain; she thinks that it will make things easier. â€Å"So leave me alone, you ought to be proud that I’m getting good marks. She wants everyone to leave her alone. She wants to keep her problem a secret, so she tries to hide it by doing well in other aspects of life, perhaps school or work. I think that this song’s view of addiction and the problems that come with it is simply brilliant. It shows the depen dency on the drug, the user’s personal feelings and hopes for what the drug will do, and the way drug addiction can affect relationships. What I learned in health class helped greatly with this project. I have loved this song for a long time, and getting this in-depth look at it by doing the analysis has only made me love and appreciate it more.

Role of Ngos in Rural Developement Essays

Role of Ngos in Rural Developement Essays Role of Ngos in Rural Developement Essay Role of Ngos in Rural Developement Essay Role of NGOs in Rural Development Shridhar Hegde, 2nd year MBA MSRIT Bangalore Kishan B. V , 2nd year MBA MSRIT Bangalore Abstract India has been a land of villages and the Government of India has been Implementing numerous rural development programmes for the upliftment of rural Communities. Non-government organizations with their advantage of non- rigid, locality specific, felt need-based, beneficiary oriented and committed nature of service have established multitude of roles which can effect rural development. A number of NGOs have been playing a vital role in rural community development, besides government interventions. It focuses on the process of rural development in India and analyses the role of NGOs in the lives of rural Communities . Realizing that the government alone was not able to meet the challenges of the massive enormous tasks in the process of rural development, the non-profit, voluntary and non-governmental organizations had to be involved in different phases and activities at the global, regional and local levels. Thus, in later phases, both the GOs and NGOs have been actively involved in transforming the lives of the rural poor. Literature review Dip kapoor (2005)The number, size, density and complexity of linkages among international NGOs have grown dramatically in the Last three decades. Sharadchandra lele(2002)Accessing interaction between the political and administrative inc of government and the influence of semi autonomous actors such as donors ,NGOs and the academics to identify the potential route towards more decentralization in the future. Shenggen fan,P. B. R hazel sukhadeo thorat(1999)Additional irrigation investment has the third largest impact on growth in agriculture productivity but only a small impact on rural poverty reduction. Montek singh ahluwalia (2007)There is a statistically significant inverse relationship between rural poverty and agricultural performance for india suggesting that agricultural growth by itself tends to reduce the incident of poverty Keywords: NGO, Government, Rural development, initiatives and activities. Introduction India lives in its villages Mahatma Gandhi. Literally and from the social, economic and political perspectives the statement is valid even today. Rural India is real India. Over Seventy-six per cent of the total population of India lives in villages. Rural India still contributes about half of the national income. Agriculture is the basic occupation which sustains the rural areas. Rural development is not simply an economic proposition; it has social, psychological and cultural dimensions as well. It is a multi-dimensional as well as multi-directional concept. People in rural areas should have the same quality of life as is enjoyed by people living in sub urban and urban areas Rural Development in India is an important segment of economic development. Although, thousands of crores of rupees have been spent on rural development during the last 57 years, the problem is as grave as it was. Yet, the importance of this subject has enhanced. Governments alone are not able to achieve the goals and reach the target groups of rural development programmes effectively, in spite of planned development strategies. It could be attributed to the decentralized, centralization of approaches and methods, rigid and bureaucratic administrative structures. And uniform, universal and project-centred strategies. On the other hand, NGOs are perceived to be more capable of transforming the lives of rural poor by adopting decentralized and flexible methods and approaches combined with people-centred strategies that elucidate direct, dynamic and collective Participation of the rural community. The decentralized structure of NGOs that places Rural people at the core, induces the process of empowerment and sustainability from within the rural community. As a result of this, the rural people themselves bring about the overall development in and around their community and locality. The success of the Rural Development depends upon the active participation and willing co-operation of the rural people through self-help groups. Why NGO’s are needed- â€Å"Think Large and Act Small: In recognition of Indias high population, the NGO is structured to help government in initiating programs and processes that will benefit Indians teeming population in different facets, and also to help the less privileged through various skill acquisition programs. The commitment is also towards proper information dissemination as well as promotion of developmental initiatives as a way of responding to needs of the marginalized and insufficiently represented segments of the nation. Relentless assistance to the disadvantaged communities in India is also the prime objective of India NGO. This is achieved through varieties of programs that address specific areas of need in those communities. The ability of the NGO to achieve all these is because of their grassroots operational strategies that help them in having insight into the priorities in the needs of these communities especially the rural and underdeveloped communities that tend to receive less attention from the government. They also address issues such as Child Labour, good health promotion, promotion of better living, women empowerment and vocational programs for the physically impaired as well as less privileged people. These are issues that government may not be able to address sufficiently at the grassroots levels because of the large population, but the NGO India is well knowledgeable and insightful into these issues and have the right approaches for proffering substantial solution to them. Formal education is also a priority in NGO schemes. The India government has made formal education compulsory for children from age 6 to 14. However, there is no proper provision and programs to ensure that this mandate is fully implemented in every part of India; the rural communities seem to be entirely forgotten. Besides, poverty is also a big challenge for those who want to realize their full potential through education. But the good news is that the NGO have well structured programs put in place for promotion of education even at the grassroots level. Activities undertaken by NGO’s Activities broadly cover the following: i. Development of natural resources; ii. Development and maintenance of physical infrastructure; iii. Poverty Alleviation Programs (PAPs) initiated towards social justice; and iv. Development of adequate, timely and quality services. The main areas covered under these activities are as follows: i. Programs for Productive Activities – agriculture, animal husbandry, poultry, fishery, small-scale industries including food processing, cottage industries, fuel and fodder and irrigation; ii. Land Development Programs – land reforms, soil conservation, minor irrigation, water management and watershed development, wasteland development, social forestry and grazing lands; iii. Education and Cultural Activities – primary schools, adult education, technical education and libraries; iv. Social Welfare – welfare of the women and child development, family welfare, care of disabled and mentally retarded; v. Provisions of Civic Amenities – drinking water, rural electrification, nonconventional sources of energy, rural roads, bridges, culverts, waterways, sanitation, rural housing and health; i. Poverty Alleviation and Allied Programs for social and economic upliftment of weaker sections; vii. Maintenance of Community assets and public distribution system; and viii. Organization and Control of rural markets and village fairs Conclusion It is seen that NGOs play a vital role in the development of rural India. Governments initiatives are not reaching deep root levels . so NGOs are needed to bridge the gaps in reaching to them. This can be achieved by partnership between government and NGOs. The overall benefits should be felt by the rural population. The funds earmarked should be channelled properly to the needed areas and should be optimally utilized. Hence NGOs are consider as perspective medium of achieving development in rural areas. Chronis Illness Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Chronis Illness - Assignment Example Chronic illnesses Chronic illnesses refer to medical conditions or health problems with associated symptoms or disabilities that require long-term management usually three months or more (Brunner & Smeltzer, 2009). Chronic illnesses may also refer to illnesses that have extended or prolonged course that are unlikely to be resolved immediately and that cure may be absent or rare. Currently, the term chronic illness is gradually fading and it being replaced by the term living with a long-term condition. The import of this approach is to eliminate or reduce emphasis on the disease rather than the person. The magnitude of chronic diseases has been defined and based on the length of illnesses, recurrence, resistance to cure and severity (Power and Orto 2004). The major causes and factors that led to the increased number of people with chronic conditions include decrease in mortality from infectious diseases, lifestyle factors, longer lifespan because of advancement in medicine and improve d screening and diagnostic procedures (Ackley & Gail, 2000). Lifestyle habits such as smoking and sedentary lifestyles have contributed to the rise and risk of chronic illnesses and problems such as respiratory diseases, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and obesity among others. Characteristics of chronic illnesses Chronic illnesses characteristic revolves around the lives of the patients and their families and its management. Chronic illness management often goes beyond the treatment of medical problems and it goes further to address other related psychological and social problems. This is because living with chronic illness and any disability has the potentially of affecting, changing and altering the identity, roles, body image and lifestyle of people (Carrier, 2009). As a result, these changes and alteration need to be managed to enable people living with chronic illnesses to continuously adapt and for them to be accommodated in the society. Another characteristics of chro nic illness is that is develops in different phases over the life span of a person. The phases may include acute periods, stable and unstable periods, flares, and remissions and each phase is normally associated with its inherent physical, psychological and social problems that need various regimens and management (Brunner & Smeltzer, 2009). Successful management of chronic illnesses requires persistent and consistent adherence to therapeutic regimes as failure or any slight deviation from the treatment may increase the risk of patients for developing other complications and it may increase the development process of the disease (Larsen, 2011). Chronic illness may lead to the development other chronic illnesses or conditions hence contributing to high risk of morbidity and mortality among patients. Chronic illness is uncertain and its management is a process of discovery that involves the collaboration of various healthcare professionals who work together with the patient and their families in the provision of various services (Nolte, Knai, & McKee, 2008). Chronic illness management is an expensive and costly as patients often incur a lot of expenses that are related to costs for hospital stays, diagnostic tests, equipment, medications and supportive services. The cost problem is further exacerbated by the fact that most living with chron

SLP 4 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

SLP 4 - Essay Example The concept of skills gaping is also important in the organization in that it helps the management to identify the tasks that require a variety of skills. Skill variety is known as the degree to which the job involves many different work activities or requires several skills and talents (Jackson & Schuler, 2000). The management may be in a position to fine tune the skills of the employees in order to improve their competencies. This also helps the management to identify the gap in the required skills among the employees that may need to be filled. On the other hand, this process also helps the management to recruit the right people with the right skills for certain tasks in the organization. The performance of the organization as a whole is improved if the workers have the requisite skills to perform a variety of tasks. During my course of work, I have seen this process used. I worked in the marketing department during my previous employment and I have realised that there are a number of skills required by different people in order for them to perform different work tasks. For instance, people with good verbal communication skills were assigned tasks that mainly dealt with customer issues. These people would deal directly with the customers and other stakeholders. On the other hand, people who had good technical skills such as computer knowledge were given tasks such as customer database maintenance and management.
